NUEVAS MEDIDAS AMIGABLES CON EL AMBIENTE
Australia es un país que se caracteriza por su preocupación por el medio ambiente, buscando constantemente nuevas soluciones que permitan bajar el impacto ambiental que genera la vida humana y reparar en la medida de lo posible los daños ya producidos.
En ese aspecto, en los últimos tiempos han surgido dos decisiones de suma importancia que buscan reparar y disminuir los daños ambientales existentes.-
Una de las medidas, viene de la mano con una investigación de la Universidad de California, en Davis, realizó una investigación que corroboró que al cambiar el hábito de nutrición del ganado vacuno se reduciría 80% la emisión de gas metano.
Durante los últimos años se han llevado a cabo diversos estudios que consistieron en cambiar la dieta de 21 bovinos. Les daban a ingerir aproximadamente 80 gramos de algas marinas rojas de la especie Asparagopsis taxiformis. Esto hizo que los bovinos aumentaran de peso y adicionalmente, mientras observaban los niveles de metano que producían, registraron que estos disminuyeron 82%, frente a lo que ocurría con su dieta habitual.
Como en la naturaleza no hay suficientes algas de tipo Asparagopsis taxiformis, la solución que encontraron los especialistas fue aliarse con una agencia científica federal en Australia llamada Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization y juntos colaboraron con la James Cook University, en Australia, y una empresa emergente que abastece, procesa, comercializa y certifica a base de algas marinas, aditivos para la alimentación del ganado.
Sea Forest va a comercializar un suplemento de algas marinas descubiertas en Australiana que podrá resolver casi por completo el problema de las emisiones de gases efecto invernadero producidas por la ganadería.
La organización oceánica ha obtenido una subvención de un millón de dólares australianos por parte del gobierno federal que permitirá acelerar la producción del innovador producto de algas comestibles llamadas asparagopsis.
Este vegetal marino fue identificado por un equipo de investigación dirigido por CSIRO, que descubrió su capacidad para reducir significativamente la cantidad de metano producido por vacas y ovejas cuando se agrega a sus dietas, eliminando casi por completo la producción del potente gas de efecto invernadero.
La asparogopsis podría reducir la producción de este gas en un 98% simplemente reemplazando el 0,2% de la dieta de los animales. De está manera, Sea Forest va a comercializar un suplemento de algas marinas descubiertas en Australiana que podrá resolver casi por completo el problema de las emisiones de gases efecto invernadero producidas por la ganadería. Las asparagopsis son nativas de las aguas de Tasmania y Sea Forest prevé poder cultivarla para producirla en cantidades comerciales y utilizarla en la industria agrícola.
La creciente producción mundial de ganado ovino y bovino se ha convertido en un gran desafío para los esfuerzos por reducir las emisiones de gases de efecto invernadero, ya que el metano tiene un potencial de calentamiento global 28 veces mayor que el del dióxido de carbono. El ganado es responsable de hasta una sexta parte de las emisiones globales.
La otra medida que se tomará y que ya se viene replicando en otras partes del mundo, tiene que ver con la prohibición de venta de vehículos nuevos de gasolina y diésel antes de cinco años para reducir la contaminación es la propuesta del Comittee for Sidney, publicado en un informe presentado este domingo.
Esta organización, un ‘think tank’ de política urbana y promoción de la ciudad australiana, cree que esta es la única manera para conseguir lograr el objetivo de emisiones cero que se ha propuesta el Gobierno para el año 2050. Está propuesta busca reducir las emisiones de dióxido de carbono a la mitad para el año 2030, lo cual se lograría con otras medidas que complementarían la restricción de ventas de vehículos, que es incentivar e incrementar el transporte público, el uso de bicicletas y otros medios de transporte como escooters y taxis eléctricos para solucionar la falta de vehículo.-
Por otro lado buscan aumentar la venta de los autos eléctricos y prohibir la circulación para 2025 de camiones diésel que se hayan fabricado con anterioridad al 2003, lo cual tiene que ver con que los camiones fabricados antes de 1996 emitieron setenta veces más de contaminación que los vehículos vendidos después del 2011.-
