Modelos de Naciones Unidas, entrevista a estudiantes: “Te das cuenta que pasan cosas en el mundo que transforman tu realidad acá”
Dialogamos con estudiantes secundarios del interior de Córdoba que participan de los Modelos de Naciones Unidas. Nos narran sus experiencias y analizan la actualidad del sistema internacional.
Los Modelos de Naciones unidas son una oportunidad para intervenir en debates y negociaciones en los que se tratan temas vinculados a las agendas de trabajo de los diferentes órganos y comisiones de las Naciones Unidas.
Distintas instituciones educativas de todos los niveles organizan las sesiones para involucrar a los jóvenes estudiantes en debates diplomáticos y conversaciones que se asemejan a los de las Naciones Unidas. En el proceso, los estudiantes desarrollan habilidades para hablar en público, escribir e investigar, y los involucra con el acontecer internacional y las agendas que lo componen.
Días atrás, desde DiplomaticWeek tuvimos la oportunidad de conversar con un grupo de estudiantes secundarios que participaron de esta actividad. Pertenecen al Instituto Inmaculada Concepción (Villa Nueva, Córdoba) y sus nombres son Federico Layana, Luisina Demichelis, Dana Borda, Ailín Bonetto, Camila Fornasero, Luna Britos, Constanza Molina, Lucía Mercado y Gianella Sánchez.
DiplomaticWeek (DW): Los Modelos de Naciones Unidas muchas veces son un desafío personal y grupal. ¿Qué les atrajo de esta actividad? ¿Cuáles son las motivaciones para participar en un evento de estas características?
Luisina: Conocer sobre el mundo y probar nuevas experiencias.
Ailín: Porque te ayuda a centrarte. Te hace dar cuenta de que tu ciudad no es el mundo. Que tu escuela no es el mundo. Y que más allá de eso hay muchas cosas, mucha gente, muchas vidas que están cambiando constantemente. Te das cuenta que pasan cosas en el mundo que transforman tu realidad acá.
Gianella: Aprendes nuevas cosas, entendés otras realidades que se diferencian de la nuestra.
Federico: Es un ámbito donde podés socializar, conocer, aprender de otras experiencias y también te llevas algo muy bueno que es la amistad y la gran experiencia de poder participar en algo que quizás te interese mucho como es la política internacional.
DW: Participar de estos modelos implica que cada uno asuma la representación de un país distinto. Sus delegaciones fueron muy variadas: Estados Unidos, Nigeria, Ucrania, México, Siria, Irak, Chile y el ACNUDH. Camila, vos fuiste delegada de Siria, ¿cómo fue trabajar en ese grupo y con ese país?
Camila: Bueno, yo decidí incorporarme a ese país porque me llamaba mucho la atención, pero realmente no sabía casi nada y creo que poco sabemos desde este lado del mundo qué pasa en Siria. Entonces fue impactante darme cuenta de esa realidad y comprender la magnitud de sus conflictos e intentar asumirlos. Fue difícil y también un desafío representar la postura de su gobierno. Asimismo, el trabajo en equipo realmente estuvo bien, nos apoyamos bastante.
Gianella: Comparto esa mirada. Me tocó representar a Nigeria, un país que pasaba por muchas cosas: pérdidas de vidas, dificultades económicas, más las consecuencias aún vigentes de la colonización británica. Como delegación trabajamos duro y nos quedábamos hasta tarde porque a veces no sabíamos cómo manejar las cosas, pero pudimos mantenernos unidas.
DW: Contamos con la presencia de dos embajadoras: Dana, embajadora de Estados Unidos y Luisina, embajadora de Ucrania. ¿Cuál es el trabajo del embajador o de la embajadora en un modelo de Naciones Unidas?
Luisina: Principalmente creo que es guiar a los delegados, acompañarlos. Y es una tarea con ese plus de tener que estar presente en cada tópico, en cada tema, pero principalmente hacer que los chicos se sientan bien. No hacer todo solo, sino aprender a delegar y confiar en la capacidad que tiene cada miembro de la delegación.
Dana: Creo que el embajador tiene dos roles. Como decía Luisina, el guiarlos y buscar formas dinámicas para los procesos de aprendizaje que les permitieran adentrarse y entender mejor los tópicos. Por otro lado, el de acompañar el proceso emocional, porque tenés un proceso que es de aprendizaje y después el emocional. Tenés que estar ahí siempre si los ves decaídos, si es que alguien está callado, si es que quizás no se está expresando. Nosotros teníamos un círculo de comunicación donde todos expresábamos emocionalmente cómo estábamos. De esa manera, vos como embajador, te das cuenta del estado de ánimo que tiene cada uno y de qué manera hay que trabajar.
Además, tenés el otro rol que es representar a tu país, en mi caso Estados Unidos; y va más por un trabajo personal. El tener que estar en todo lleva a un esfuerzo exhaustivo. Ese el plus, necesitas voluntad y confianza.
DW: Mencionaron la cuestión emocional. No olvidemos que ustedes tienen entre 16 y 18 años. No son diplomáticos de carrera, sino que siguen siendo jóvenes estudiantes de secundario. ¿Qué emociones intervienen en todo este proceso? ¿Cómo se vive un Modelo de Naciones Unidas?
Federico: Es una bola de emociones. Va desde alegría, tristeza, nervios, ansiedad. En un punto uno se pregunta ¿en qué me metí? Pero cuando llega el momento de ir al recinto uno dice bueno, ya estoy acá, vamos a ver qué hago. Una vez que finaliza el Modelo viene esa sensación de tristeza por haber terminado.
Constanza: Se pasa por mucho estrés y adrenalina, pero la experiencia termina siendo positiva.
DW: Hace unos días atrás se llevó a cabo la semana diplomática más importante del mundo: la Cumbre de Líderes Mundiales en la Asamblea General de Naciones Unidas. En la apertura de la sesión, el secretario general de Naciones Unidas, Antonio Guterres hizo un llamado a reformar el sistema internacional. Una reforma quizás justificada en que las instituciones no están pudiendo dar respuesta a los asuntos actuales. Desde su lugar de estudiantes y representantes ante Naciones Unidas en el último Modelo ¿qué reflexión hacen sobre el sistema internacional actual? ¿Cómo ven el mundo a través de estas dificultades que ustedes mismos han analizado durante el modelo?
Dana: Bueno, hay un tema acá. Conflictos armados o conflictos bélicos siempre hubo. Hasta la Segunda Guerra Mundial sin un marco jurídico establecido de manera común que los pudiera regular. Asimismo, hoy en día hay conflictos bélicos y aunque tenemos las normas del derecho internacional y del derecho internacional humanitario establecidas no le podemos dar respuesta a muchos de esos conflictos.
Eso te lleva a pensar si la funcionalidad de todas las organizaciones, incluso de las mismas Naciones Unidas, está siendo aplicada en el escenario internacional. ¿Y por qué no funciona? ¿Qué estamos haciendo mal después de pasar tanto? En lo que respecta a las Naciones Unidas y su marco específico, tiene mucho que ver con la desigualdad que hay entre los Estados. El hecho de que el Consejo de Seguridad sea el único órgano que tiene el poder de frenar efectivamente un conflicto bélico, y en el que hay un derecho a veto por cinco miembros permanentes, me parece que siempre va a ser un problema en la resolución de conflictos.
El hecho de darle a esos cinco miembros la responsabilidad de manejar la seguridad y la paz internacionales creo que pone en riesgo un poco a lo mismo que se trata de defender. Por otra parte, el que estemos en un mundo mucho más multipolar requiere nuevos horizontes, nuevos mecanismos de resolución.
Luisina: Coincido. Siento que nunca va a poder haber una justicia real por ejemplo con Rusia y Ucrania, mientras Rusia tenga el poder de vetar cada proyecto de resolución que se presente. También otro punto que creo que es importante es la visibilización de los temas. Parece que los asuntos internacionales no están en ningún lado, en los medios no se les da a la importancia que realmente merecen.
Ailín: Es importante el papel de los medios de comunicación. Pero hay que hacer ajustes al sistema internacional porque no se puede negar que hay una superioridad entre Estados, no somos todos los Estados iguales, no somos todos los países iguales. Muchos tienen privilegios sobre otros. Necesitamos ir hacia un mundo más humanitario e igualitario. Un mundo más justo.
DW: ¿Qué se aprende en un Modelo de Naciones Unidas?
Luna: Lo que aprendí bastante es que es bueno estar en compañía y no siempre estar sola. A mí me gusta trabajar por mi cuenta, pero con mis compañeros pasamos buenos momentos. Si no hubiera sido por ellos, yo el primer día no lo hubiera pasado. Creo que el compañerismo es fundamental, fue eso lo que me motivó.
Camila: Aprendí que si me propongo hacer algo lo puedo lograr. Hubo mucha gente que me ayudó, los profesores y mis compañeros.
DW: Si tuvieran que definir esta experiencia con una sola palabra…
